Buzz Interviews Dafna Revah of CBD Kratom

In 2013, we opened a traditional smoke shop in St. Louis, MO. After that, we began attending various trade shows and learning more about CBD and Kratom products. At the same time, customers were coming into our store and asking if we carried the products. Due to customer demand, we began selling these products in our store in 2014. Customers would continuously return and tell us how these products were positively changing their lives. Even close friends and family who were suffering from pain, anxiety and other ailments became increasingly excited about the benefits they saw when using CBD and Kratom products. Because the products varied so dramatically, we opened our first CBD Kratom to house the CBD and Kratom products in 2016 in Bucktown, Chicago. The company grew from there, and we have gone from one location to over 30 in Dallas, Chicago, St. Louis and Houston.

I was born into a culture that valued traditions like henna and I was blessed with an unconditional love for art, and that’s how my henna story begins. The first time I picked up a henna cone I was 13 years old, driven, but not very good. Still, I made an Instagram and started to post. Pretty soon, people wanted me to do their henna and were willing to pay for it. I became involved in the henna community on Instagram, learning from them but also comparing myself to them. I looked at the work of other henna artists with years of experience and wondered why they were so much better. Only years of practice and several sacrificed hands later, did I realize practice was the secret. If I learned anything since the start it’s, always make time for your art. It’s important.

I began performing stand up comedy after signing up for an open mic in my hometown Milwaukee, WI. After 2 1/2 years of performing I decided to move to LA to pursue it as a career. Since arriving to LA I’ve been able to perform at The a World Famous Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, and the Mayan Theatre, and recently began producing my own monthly comedy show called The Next Show.

My name is Unice Fernández, I’m a portrait and fashion photographer based out of San Diego, California. I’ve always had a love for art, from using film cameras, making candles, painting and so much more. Although I loved art, I never saw it as a career choice because the artists I saw growing up didn’t look like me and as a daughter of immigrant parents art is not a career choice lol. If you ask most children of immigrants, they’ll know what I’m talking about. The pressure of pursuing the “American Dream” and becoming a doctor or lawyer is what we are supposed to do. I realized the true beauty of the “American Dream” is accepting the freedom to become who we were created to be. My parents came to the States for a better life and I didn’t want to waste this opportunity by pursuing another person’s dream. My “American Dream” was following the path God laid out for me before I was born. It may not look like everyone else’s but I learned to be okay with that. It was then that I finally launched my photography business.

The Smoogies band is comprised of Harvel Nakundi (drums), Dion Kerr (bass), Vaughn Henry (keys/vocals) and David Chiverton (drums), all formally trained musicians hailing from South Florida. Each member has served interchangeably as leader and accompanist to a variety of performing acts around the world with repertoires spanning across multiple genres.

Harvel (J. Lo, Nicole Henry) and Dion (Jean Caze, Tivon Pennicott) founded the band in Miami after both having spent time in NYC and on the road touring and performing at festivals around the world. Their relationship writing and playing music goes back over a decade when they first met in Miami. They both had a desire to create while cultivating a sense of community. It was only right to include Dave (DW/Zildjian/Vic Firth artist) and Vaughn (Ghost Note, Snarky Puppy) in the group.

The Smoogies began their career with a feature on the digital music series, “The Chivertone Sessions” and notoriety grew instantaneously. From there, they were given the opportunity to hold residency and curate a weekly hangout where the band developed and refined their sound further. They also secured a spot at the prestigious Ground Up Music Festival, and they have not stopped breaking ground since.

Even as a very little girl, I had always wanted to be an entertainer. I had barely started walking and I was already singing, dancing and making my own skits and plays. My mother told me that I would always perform for friends and family whenever they came to visit. For as long as I can remember, I just really enjoyed making people smile and laugh.

I was with my Mom shopping when we saw this flyer for child actors. I begged her and begged her until she finally gave in and let me go to the audition. I ended up beating out 400 other kids for the role in my first television commercial and a star was born. LOL. From there I appeared in number of national television commercials and television shows. During that time, cheered on by my Grandfather who bought me my first guitar, I began my professional singing career as well. I was around eight years old when I started performing in children’s hospitals and raising money for charities in my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. I was a triple threat performer who also competed in talent and beauty competitions, winning many titles and eventually winning the honor of being Ms. Nashville, Tennessee.

It sounds like a dream life, but to be honest, nothing was handed to me and I had to work hard for everything I had. My Mother was a busy single Mom working two jobs to support us, and I definitely did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth. I had to secure sponsors for every pageant I was in and design and sew my own dresses along with my Grandmother’s help. I would see other kid’s parents buying them the best, but in the end, my sheer determination and drive was what helped me to rise to the top. After winning Ms. Nashville, I pursued my music career further. My band won a battle of the bands competition, beating out 500 other bands and catapulting my career. I became a platinum selling recording artist, with my first self-titled album and that enabled me to tour with many well-known artists across the nation.

While I was pursuing my music career, a famous acting coach saw my work and told me that Los Angeles was the best place to continue my career. I packed up and headed out and I immediately began landing roles in hit movies and television shows like, “Anchorman”, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”, “Parks and Recreation”, “Nip/Tuck”, and later on, “My Name is Earl”, and “Modern Family”.

As my acting career flourished, I also continued my music career with my second album, “Distraction,” that accumulated over twenty-million online streams worldwide, and a few of my songs were number one ringtone downloads in North America. Since then, I have released several more singles including “SupaBad”, the “SupaBad UltraBad Remix”, “It’s My Life” and the “It’s My Life Remix” which can all be found on Itunes, Google Play, Spotify and other audio streaming sites.

Throughout it all though, I never forgot my roots and where I came from. Being someone who has made their way with very little, I’ve always found it important to give back to others as well. I work with many local, national and international charities around the world. I also give back in other ways as well, by sharing my daily inspirational messages to my 4.5 Million fans and friends online.

The daily messages became so important, that through the request of my fans, I was urged to become an author and release my first book, “Darcy’s Daily Dose of Inspiration”. The book is a guide to help you live your best life. I have to say that the book campaign and launch was incredible, with my book getting into stores like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and a dozen of other book retailers across the nation. I am blessed to have received letters and emails from thousands of fans saying that the book and my online posts helped them to go on with their lives. I couldn’t be more thankful for the wonderful feedback.

Of course, if you haven’t figured out by now, I’m still keeping busy, writing my second book and I am currently in pre-production on a network television show that I will be producing and starring in. My career is just beginning. It’s been a journey of self acceptance and hard work.

I’ve always been interested in acting but because of my low self-esteem as a child I never thought it would be possible. I felt like people like me were not seen or represented on TV so to me that meant, I was going to make it in the industry. I was definitely wrong! One day I decided to audition for an agency and from there things changed. I decided to focus on what it was I could work on and that was building a platform for myself within the industry. I took acting classes and became more accepting of myself. Once I stopped comparing myself to other girls in the industry and showed who I really was, was when I saw people were interested in giving me opportunities. The projects came and the journey is just beginning.

When my mother moved us to Germany, I noticed that there was absolutely no Hair salons offering services for my type of hair and I got tied of taking the train on the weekends to Paris to get our hair done I decided to teach myself how to braid so I could do our hair. From the start one of my goals was to keep our hair healthy and not cause what I later learned is Traction Alopecia. After I got better at doing different styles my mother started one the first salons in the German town we lived and my sister and I started working and helping her that’s when I noticed how much I loved transforming and beautifying ladies. After moving to the US in 2006 with my family I decided to continue my path in the beauty industry as it given me the flexibility I needed being an Army wife, I became licensed in the US in 2008 and opened my salon in 2012 after renting booths in several other salons and not being able to conduct my business the way I envisioned it. Chéz Délali Salon is a dream come true and being able to add Délali Robinson Cosmetics in 2016 definitely boost my business confidence. To be able to share the journey and be part of our clients life and transformation is a privilege and priceless.

I was raised in Mississippi by my paternal grandparents. I moved to Chicago to pursue a career in writing, and I did. I started out writing for a trade magazine, and I quickly moved into creating web content. Then, one day, I was given a project to work on the website, and I fell in love! That was 20 years ago, and I’ve been infatuated with websites ever since. As of today, I’ve worked on approximately 48 websites and 7 apps!

‘You’ll never amount to anything.’ are the words that I recall decades later that a teacher said to me in 10th grade. They must have had an impact because the voice that rang those words in my ear have yet to be forgotten.
When I was in my early 20’s, another voice echoed similar words. Words that hurt from someone I met. And trusted.
‘You’re a slow learner.’ Yes, this too became words in the book of my story.

In the midst of these bruises & scars, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Biology. And later, I earned my MBA with a concentration in health services. In the process of earning my Masters Degree; it became important, almost crucial, for me to organize a non-profit geared towards teens in 2009. To help them navigate and arrive at their successful destinations. To show them how to transform dark spaces into workrooms of progress.

Then, 2020. A Global Pandemic. Society is shaken to its core around the globe. I looked around and discovered the purpose of my plight. I hold a strategic position in Public Health. I impact communities around the world. I am
steadfast. Words don’t scare me. I stand strong against invaders that threaten our existence.

Now I can say Thank You. Thank you to the words that tried to hinder my flight. Thank you for strength & courage from the battles. Thank you. Thank God for an inner yearning for the Sciences that put me on a path to here.
Changing the world for the better. Strong. I did amount to something. I became a Butterfly, Anyway!

I stand for STEAM because STEAM stood for me. I am here. Gliding on the wind with scarred wings that turned Sacred. My promise is to empower Teens in avenues of STEM. To mentor. To demonstrate. To encourage. To let them know high flight is theirs despite perceived fears or failures. To show them to use every bit of everything they have & make it benefit their futures. To develop their wings. To Serve. To Soar. To Fly!
