Meet Yusef Brewster of Total Urban Fitness
To truly paint the picture of my story, we must travel back to May of 1993 in Long Island, New York. I was a month old when my Father became a certified personal trainer ,and honestly without him doing so I probably wouldn’t have become one myself. To this day he is one of my biggest inspirations and I’m still learning from the master. As a child, I was always extremely active and blaring loads of energy. When I turned 7 years old I started hanging out at the gym with my dad playing with other kids and slowly absorbing his training experiences with his clients. I had no idea that observing him for the next four years would set the tone for my career.
Fast forward to 2012, past the teenaged years of “what do you want to do with your life”, I finally decided to become a Certified Personal Trainer. I developed my craft, using the lessons from my Father linked with mentors along the way. Eventually in 2017 at a gym from my past, I worked my way up to earning the Number 1 Trainer award 3 months in a row only a few months after I started working there. As I knew I wanted to grow and spread my wings further, I parted ways with that gym to grow my own business. Even though my company was formed officially back in 2015, 2018 is when I began to connect the dots. Today my company’s focus is on in-home personal training and we plan on being Buckhead’s number one source by the end of 2020.
My training career has definitely had some fumbles and shake ups over the years. I thankfully (knock on wood) haven’t had to revive anyone or somebody seriously injured under my watch, but I’ve made some mistakes I had to learn from. ￼￼￼￼￼Those mistakes have given me an eagle eye for bad form, and an ear for well formed excuses. I’m in the second year of truly learning my business from every angle. It has definitely been hard building it from the ground up￼, but I’ve never feared hard work￼. I have no doubt that the challenges will continue to appear, but it’s only going to make me a better problem solver!
Total Urban Fitness is all about creativity and delivering results you can maintain long after we have trained together. We have a smooth process that gets you to your goals quickly while limiting the mistakes along the way. The first step is showing you how to eat the right things, as well as when and how to eat junk food so you don’t go crazy. Eating well is about balance and is your foundation for a healthy life both physically and mentally no matter what you focus is.
The second part of the process is where we start making some noise. We use Cardio Kickboxing and various forms of Strength and Conditioning to cut away the fat and build muscle that compliments your body. Our Strength and Conditioning approach mimics the physical challenges you face either on a day to day basis or in the sports you play. Every rep and exercise is prescribed to drastically improve your natural abilities.
Cardio Kickboxing is our bread and butter; using our martial arts experience, we show you real techniques in conjunction with fast pace exercises that make you feel like bad a**. We have special equipment that you’ll punch, kick, and knee that will help lower your stress levels. Hands down, this the most invigorating way to get results you can see in the mirror.
I define success as constant and relentless progression towards your ultimate goals. That progression may not always be in the form of more money, it may be in your ability to communicate effectively with others or marketing and selling. No matter where I am in my journey, I’m always looking for ways to better serve my clients. As long as I stay diligent and aware of that, I’ll continue to make steps in the right direction.
