Dallas today is a cosmopolitan city known for its high concentration of restaurants and shopping centers. Skyscrapers, such as Bank of America Plaza and Reunion Tower, create a striking night skyline.
It has always been a dream of mine to own my own magazine. Growing up, I had a lot of single parent household, yet ambitious group of friends. My plan was to tell their story and get them exposure because I felt people needed to hear their story. Also, like any other person standing in the check-out line at the grocery store, I enjoyed the creative images and reading editorials about upcoming people and A list celebrities in magazines. As I was making the decision throughout college of what I wanted to do, photography was just a hobby. I purchased…
When I was 16 years old, I decided that I was tired of asking for money. I wanted my own money on my own terms, but my parents informed me that we were leaving Florida and moving to Texas. I then thought well I don’t want to start a job then have to quit, so like any normal teenager I decided to start my own business. I knew absolutely nothing about starting a boutique, except that you needed a name, clothes, and some form of way to communicate with the world to buy your items. So in June of 2013,…
It all started at church, really, I’ve always enjoyed photography, since I was very young and received my first Kodak camera for Christmas, But a few years ago, I became fascinated by the images of the services and events that were shared on social media by my church. There was something about the joy and emotion that was captured in those images that just tugged at me and pulled me in. It was then that I became serious about photography. I wanted to be able to create images like that, images that made others feel something. I know that might…
In 2015, was unhappy with my current status in life and decided to pursue more of my passions in life. In my pursuit a discovered a fashion show that was to take place. The fashion show was entitled Insta Runway. I located the contact information for the show and emailed the production team. The assistant producer for the show read my email and exclaimed to the lead producer that they had to take a look at it. After the lead producer read it they contacted me and we scheduled a call. Upon receiving the call we had over a 3…
The story behind Deaf Clothing starts 10 years ago. When I went to college, I was really an introvert. You would only see me out with friends, then i'd be the one that kept to myself. Music is what helped me break out of my shell. I decided to become a DJ. During the same time I made this decision, I became a homeless college student living out of a Motel 6. Half of the time I didn't know where my next meal would come from. All of my friends were thriving and I was stuck, so I went into…
I recently quit my job in Minneapolis and moved to Dallas. I started my new Instagram page and Pinterest to collect content from my adventures in order to build captions, ideas, and content into a blog. My first goal was to go everywhere, be everywhere. Networking in a new city was my first challenge! I’m a pretty outgoing person and have always been successful making friends in new cities. I studied abroad three times (twice in undergrad, once in grad school) and worked in London as a Program Director for a study abroad program. I’ve always been excited by looking…
There is such a natural feeling about being behind a camera and visually creating something amazing. For me, that feeling has carried with me through my journey as a photographer. From the beginning, I knew it was going to be my passion because it brought a creative outlet and brought genuine joy. Before making any strict decisions on my life, I knew that I didn't want whatever career I chose to be restricted to a desk and a chair. I wanted to be able to have freedom with my job and have fun while doing it. Now, as an eight-year-old,…
I was in a place of exploration. I wanted to know more about my heritage. I discovered that I am 17 percent Indigenous American and 83 percent Sub-Saharan African. My next desire was to learn to sew. I signed up for classes and studied for more than a year. In my sewing journey I decided to begin to make my own creations to sell. I use African, Indigenous American and American fabrics. So far, it’s been a hit.
Being born in a family that specializes in the restaurant industry, I was always around food, people, and family. That was the premise for starting Mother Clucker. I wanted to have a place where there was good food for everyone to gather and to enjoy with their friends and families. After eating out at many fried chicken dining establishments, I noticed a common theme missing at all of them. They were all missing out on something small, whether it was tasteless or over breaded tenders, offering only one kind of fries, offering limited sauce options, or not having dessert. I…
I am semi-retired from a long and successful career in small-animal veterinary medicine. Decades ago, I had developed an interest in photography, but the time demands of raising a family and attending to a 60-90 hour/week business, left me with little time for art. As my clinical veterinary duties scaled back, I was able to devote more and more time to expanding my knowledge of the art and science of portrait photography. Today I am fortunate enough to be able to shoot as little or as often as I want. I mainly shoot portraiture and artistic portraiture for myself, and…
