It all started when I got together with a former college classmate who I hadn’t seen in thirteen years. He was convinced that I would have pursued standup comedy after college instead of working in corporate America. I performed standup comedy during my last semester of college and my friend could still remember his favorite jokes from when I performed at a student event right before graduation. I was a French major in college, meaning I had no idea what I was going to do with my life after college other than move to France and meet the man of my dreams. Surprise! It didn’t really work out that way!

I decided to move to Los Angeles one year after this conversation from North Carolina where I was working as a marketing manager on the Burt’s Bees brand. I had always wanted to move to Los Angeles to be closer to three of my best friends and I had concerns about living in a red state during a Trump presidency. It was a difficult decision to leave the best job I’d ever had in my career up until that point but it was ultimately the right decision for me.

I’ve always loved comedy. The movie Airplane starring Leslie Nielsen was the first movie I remember watching and laughing hysterically with my family. It also helped me learn English right after my family moved to Orlando from Puerto Rico when I was 4 years old. In Living Color was my favorite TV show as a kid. I loved it so much my brother Jorge and I revolted against our parents and would not attend church on Sunday nights until our parents fixed the VCR to tape record the show. I then discovered Steve Martin, John Leguizamo, and Margaret Cho’s standup and one-man shows and thought to myself “I love what they are doing and I want to do that.”

Standup comics are my favorite people. It’s a tiny segment of people who know exactly what you are going through and have gone through the exact same emotions and you have. Artists are special people. They are willing to be vulnerable and willing to be judged and take the consequences for the choices they make to a crowd of strangers.

I’ve been lucky enough to perform in comedy clubs and gay bars all around LA. I’ve performed at comedy festivals throughout the country. I was also a semifinalist in the 2018 and 2019 US Comedy Contest and performed at the World Series of Comedy. I would classify my material as silly, sharp and clumsy with a political edge.

Photography has been apart of my life since a young age. I felt like I was always the unofficial photographer of my family. When I got to high school, I enrolled in my school’s photography class, which they started that year. I learned the technical side of it and years later, I directed my passion and drive towards taking pictures and now here I am!

Well, let’s just start with the name – Rhett George. My parents got my first name from the movie classic Gone with the wind. The lead character’s name was Rhett Butler. I guess my parents somehow knew that I would be in Entertainment and wanted to bless me with a great stage name. Yes, I was teased as a kid for such a unique name and I hated it then, but I have learned to embrace it now. Having two first names is always cool.

My mother was a Christian singer in the Caribbean with her two sisters. She taught me how to sing at age three. From there, I caught the bug of performing whether be singing or dancing or using my imagination to put on one-person plays. For most of my pre-teen years, I grew up and only child, so I was in a lot of extracurricular activities to keep me busy. I started taking piano lessons at age six. I would tell my younger self now to sit at the piano and put in the hours of practice. I am a songwriter and I really wish I could play my own songs. But I guess its never too late to learn. I danced and competed in nationwide dance competitions in the disciplines of Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Acrobatic and Hip Hop. But I knew at a very young age that I did not want to be one dimensional. I wanted to dive into everything… a triple threat… an entertainer that does it all.

Fast forward some years to my real first professional job at the amusement park Paramount Canada’s Wonderland, where I was a singer and dancer in the summer stage show. I then moved accidentally into musical theatre. I say that because I had never seen a musical prior and somehow, I ended up in the production of Rent, which led to other musicals such as Broadway, Aida, Wicked, Sweet Charity and The Little Mermaid to name a few. After living in New York and calling it home, I decided to take another risk and try out Los Angeles.

I’m a Hoosier, born and raised! My mom is a well respected English teacher and has always loved the arts. My father served in the military and sadly passed in 2005 while serving in Afghanistan. After he passed, my mom placed my younger sister and I in dance and gymnastics classes. That was my outlet. I have been performing in theatre and dance ever since. I know attend AMDA College of the Performing Arts and major in Musical Theater! My dream is to share my love for the arts by performing throughout the states and around the world. I hope to encourage and inspire others to chase their dreams as well.
