Buzz Interviews Chrissy Newton & Marie Nicola of Alt.Pop.Repeat

Chrissy: Almost a year ago, Marie and I started on a journey together to create a podcast concept that has never been done before. Ever! (trust me, we were shocked too). On Alt.Pop.Repeat we dive deep into how counterculture, sub and alternative cultures “connect” (or what we like to call a “sync”) together to influence current pop culture. Our podcast baby has developed and evolved overtime and it’s something Marie and I are really proud to call our own. It’s a labor of love and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Marie: We started like most great projects begin… friends reconnecting over drinks and great conversations. I was looking for a new media project after a hiatus and Chrissy wanted to try her hand at production. Without much hesitation our show was born. The subject matter was the easiest part, we both love mainstream culture and are naturally curious. Integrating celebrities to weigh in was a natural progression, as was our choice to begin with an audio only product to begin. Then it took a lot of tenacity, patience and determination to get to where we are today – which truthfully is only just the beginning!

When I became pregnant with my son, Gunner – there were groups for women who had children, but all they consisted of were formula, breastfeeding, diaper brand preferences, etc. but none of them really dug into the true hurdles and difficulties of being a parent. Especially being a minority. I was exhausted with seeing mother’s suffering from situational poverty, relying solely on government assistance & also the utter lack of having a village / sisterhood that you could have at arms reach. I wanted less talking, and more action.

Im an actor out of Detroit Michigan, I began in fitness just trying to stay healthy, young as possible and motivate others to do the same. I was asked to do a few model shoots for some clothing and it transitioned into some bigger names such as nike and adidas from there shot many romance novel book covers for authors who are well known sellers in the New York Times. I then was told about movies filming in the area and was submitted to play extras parts and loved it. Its actually very hard to do and I like a challenge. From then on ive pursued acting full time playing in multiple shorts, web series and feature films as well as music videos and commercials.

I grew up in Indiana and went to nursing school at Purdue University. After a couple of years of working in the intensive care unit back in the Midwest I started my travel nursing career, landing my first travel assignment in LA at USC medical center. In LA is where I started my Martial Arts journey as well at Krav Maga Worldwide in West LA. I then continued my Krav Maga training up in Santa Barbara where I also began to take private lessons in Brazilian jiu jitsu. Once finished with my Santa Barbara travel assignment (1 year), I took a contract up in San Francisco where I began training Brazilian jiu jitsu under Ralph Gracie Black belt, Renan Silva. After spending about a year in San Francisco, I made the plunge to San Diego where I took a permanent RN position at UCSD in the ICU. I continued my Jiu Jitsu training under Clark Gracie. After about another year of training Martial Arts, one of my instructor Michael Sands asked if I could CPR certify all of the Clark Gracie Academy instructors. I told him I didn’t have my instructor certification, but would look into it so I could train them. 2 months later I received my AHA CPR instructor certification and certified all of the Clark Gracie Instructor. This was the start of Martial Arts Med. I would give something back to the Martial Arts community. As time went on, I realized that my experience in the hospital and Martials arts complimented each other well. I began running self defense classes focused on non-violent techniques. Something nurses and healthcare workers could use in the hospital setting if someone becomes combative or agressive. I have experience a lot of violence during my time working in the hospital and so have a lot of my co workers. Some nurses even out of work to rehab because they were attacked by a patient. I am currently in the process of developing a hospital self defense system.

Another hobby and project I’m working on is called Dose of Laughter SD. I produce comedy shows and perform stand up comedy. I have always loved stand up my whole life and wanted to try it out. After getting on stage once, a little over a year ago, I never turned back. Reading and Writing Comedy almost everyday and performing at open mics all over San Diego 3-5times per week.

Buzz Interviews Xavier Medina of Érase Una Vez

Medina, a native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, majored in audiovisual communications at the University of Puerto Rico, and later completed his Master of Fine Arts in directing for the film at the Savannah College of Art and Design. In 2013 he collaborated as director of photography for an Axe commercial that was awarded the Silver Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, and since then has directed multiple award-winning short films and commercials for brands including Coca-Cola, T-Mobile and Medalla Light.

Cotarelo, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico and after made the transition to working in the cinematic world. She started her career in the production department and later on moved to focus on production design. Since then, she has been working in everything from music videos, commercials, narrative films and documentaries.

After years of working in the Audiovisual Industry, Medina and Cotarelo moved to Miami, where they continue to collaborate as artists. Together they created Érase una vez (Once upon a time) a film collective of storytellers. Here Xavi operates as writer/director, cinematographer and editor and Maria manages production, art department and other departments as needed.

Last year, Xavi was chosen as the first Cinematic Resident from Oolite Arts, where he obtained a grant to make our first feature film titled Sunnyland. At the moment we are shooting principal photography and we plan to have a final cut of the film by the end of summer.

I have been performing in front of crowd since I was five years old, and by the age of nine I was already singing, dancing, and acting in competitive engagements. An accomplished actor and singer, I recently finished filming a new movie based on the award-winning book “Song of the Tree Frogs” where I played the lead role of a teenager named Philip. My first feature film “18 to Party” recently premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival, and over the past several years I have appeared in in multiple other films, commercials, TV episodes, voice overs, and national and international TV ads.

Ever since arriving in New York in 2015, I have regularly put in 15 to 20+ hours a week training, attending workshops, and auditioning. All of my hard work and dedication to perfecting my talents paid off when I was tapped to play Friedrich for the Broadway 50th Anniversary National Tour of The Sound of Music. Once off tour, my musical abilities continued to be highlighted as I was selected as a finalist in the American Protégé International Vocal Competition and I had the privilege of singing at Carnegie Hall Stern Auditorium. I then was chosen as a winner in the Junior Division of the NY Lyric Opera Competition and was asked to perform on The Harry Connick Jr TV Show. I have performed in and sang Tosca, Macbeth, and have performed in multiple cabarets all over NYC. I was selected as a 2018 Honors Performance Series Sydney Opera House Finalist and had a 2017 Grammy consideration for my first professional recording “A Christmas Presence”. I was given the honor of being the first and the youngest American artist to be invited to Italy to train in the art of Belcanto, where I was honored to be invited to sing with the Belcanto Italiano Foundation in the home of famous tenor Beniamino Gigli.

I am represented by Innovative Artists and managed by Snow Entertainment, Cinda Snow. I am an honors student in high school and I also attend The Juilliard School as a Vocal Performance Vocal Major in Juilliard’s Pre-College program 2019-2021.

I picked up a guitar lying around my house at age 12 and started writing shortly thereafter. I was living in a rural environment, (and by rural I mean having to traverse a valley, evade bulls and hop fences to make it to the school bus) so the dive into music was spurred from boredom and a lack of external stimulus. The passion grew rapidly. By the end of middle school I had turned my bedroom into a recording studio. There were 4 guitars, a bass, a Rhodes piano, an organ, and several mics & stands laying about (there may have been a bed in there somewhere). My aversion to using existing samples led me to all kinds of strange experiments – hitting FedEx boxes for drums, miking the piano from the bathroom, and digitally manipulating the blood curdling calls of the coyotes that dwelled in the dark forest behind my home. Mid-way through high school my family moved onto a boat to avoid California’s high cost of living. Far away from both the friends I had known and my new “land lubbing” peers, I dove further into my obsession and persevered, despite the seagull calls and fog horns that inevitably made their way into my early demos. I remained musically possessed through college, and continued to dream up melodies throughout a dizzying study-abroad around the globe. I had to develop altitude sickness 90% of the way through the Har Ki Doon trek in the Himalayas to convince myself to pursue “this thing” as a career. With my recent single release “Frequent Flyer,” and 4 more on the way, I feel good about where I am artistically and look forward to riding a wave of suppressed creativity and collaboration after the country opens up again. Currently, I write this bio sitting on that same boat, preparing to record another batch of demos on liquid ground. And yes, the seagulls still won’t shut up.

My name is Christine I sale lashes it’s use to be called daya lashes it started when my cousin she sale hair it’s called Gold’n glam and she is so ambitious and always promoting and I was like want to start my own business I just remembering I use to wear lashes a lot and people would compliment me about my lashes then it pop up to my head why not start selling lashes it did well but I wanted to do something more so now I’m going to sale hand bags with my lashes and I’m changing the name to Zahrä. I’m still reconstruction my business I’m honestly recovering from bad anxiety attacks that Ive been happening and now I want to be more involved and help and listening to people who suffers from anxiety attacks and let them know they are not alone but if it wasn’t for my my parents, my brothers , my boyfriend Nate my close friends like Michaela, Miah, jaila , Domo, jewels and another Domo and my cousin briana I would probably still not know what I was dealing with so I want to hear more stories give advice on how to deal with anxietys it’s a scary feeling. I want to help so if you know anyone who deals with this dm me tell me stories. About it give me techniques advice on you dealt with it

It all started when I first talked to my mother about my future career. Originally, she wanted me to become a lawyer because it was a popular job back in the day, but my mind and my soul told me otherwise, I wanted to become a beauty expert. Soon after, I opened a few salons of my own in Russia and even worked in television and film industry, but I didn’t stop just there, I dreamt bigger, I wanted to work with Hollywood celebrities. After leaving everything behind, I finally moved to Los Angeles and in 2017, I opened my SSTAGIONI beauty studio in the heart of Hollywood. I have become a platform artist and an educator for many brands and have been working with celebrities ever since. To this day, I enjoy making people happy and help them in any way I can when they have hair problems. I’m so glad that I never gave up on my goal because I couldn’t have imagined of how my life would turn out, if I didn’t pursue my life dream. However, this is just the beginning, I have yet to open my very own advanced academy for future hair dressers and make up artists.
