Meet Lowell Bakke of The Standing Room
I’m originally from Hawaii and moved to the South Bay about 11 years ago. My family had a liquor store in Redondo Beach that had space in the back for a take out restaurant. We gave it a try and it blew to something a lot bigger than we ever imagined. From that location we open two other locations in Hermosa Beach and Bellflower and I partnered in a brewery in Lomita called Project Barley.
It’s never a smooth road when owning a business. The hardest part was mainly the hours and waking up each morning knowing you have to have a good day no matter what. You have a team who looks to you and believes you so I never wanted to show them I was down.
We are mostly know for our burgers and fusion with influences from Hawaiian and Asian cuisine.
Success isn’t always in the money. The money helps but to wake up and do what you love and to make people happy while you are doing it that’s the best.
