I've always had a thing for photography. I cannot remember a time in my life where I didn't have a camera of some sort in my possession. According to my parents, I have always had an eye for capturing the most beautiful images and would buy me those disposable cameras anytime I used one up. Eventually they bought me a digital camera and my passion grew rapidly.
I have always been a writer. However, my “published author” journey began five years ago. Four years after I started the journey, my book ‘Through the Fire’ was born. As a cancer survivor twice over, undergoing 18 surgeries, being molested by a boy scout leader, and a lot more, I knew my story had to be told. As the eldest of thirteen siblings, growing up, I instantaneously and subconsciously discovered that growing up sooner than later was the determining factor that has shaped my life. In retrospect, leading a sheltered way of living was inevitable but normal, up until my…
For me, fashion has always been intrinsic to who I am. I honestly can’t remember a time in my collective memory when I was okay with allowing other people to dress me, personal expression through fashion has always just been that important to me, and I am so fortunate to have a family who always cultivated that by allowing me to dress myself however I wanted. Dressing myself, and other people has always been a source of joy for me. Literally from pre-school, where I always played dress up during free time or as a child when I had a…
My name is Unice Fernández, I'm a portrait and fashion photographer based out of San Diego, California. I’ve always had a love for art, from using film cameras, making candles, painting and so much more. Although I loved art, I never saw it as a career choice because the artists I saw growing up didn’t look like me and as a daughter of immigrant parents art is not a career choice lol. If you ask most children of immigrants, they’ll know what I’m talking about. The pressure of pursuing the “American Dream” and becoming a doctor or lawyer is what…
My photography career all started with me taking a ton of pictures of my 3 kiddos - back in 2014 I had a patient reach out to me & see if I’d was interested in taking pics of her kids- I said absolutely!!! I think I charged around $50 for a sunset portrait sesh. That was the beginning & I have been shooting professionally since then.
I unknowingly started in the event planning industry when I was 12, helping my older sister set-up for her events. The first event that really started it all for us was her wedding. I mainly helped because I wanted to hang out with my sister and if that meant having to help her choose between the hundreds of shades of purples, I was willing to go along with the crazy. This went on to help her plan social events like birthdays, bridal showers, and Christmas parties. The planning came really easy for us and we used that time together to…
As long as I can remember, I’ve always had a camera in my hand, taking pictures of anything and everything I possibly could. I started taking photography classes in High School and then later in college. I loved photography and could not get enough of it. Other than the few professional classes I've taken, I'm a self-taught photographer. I officially opened Bombshell Boudoir about a year and a half ago. At the time of opening my business, my husband was deployed and for an anniversary gift I decided to do a boudoir shoot of my own for him. I was…
My journey began in the church. I grew up in a church on the Southside of Chicago called Salem Baptist Church and I would watch my mother and her friends sing, lead worship, play instruments, etc. Growing up I spent quite a bit of my time in church every week in rehearsals on Tuesday, bible study on Wednesday, and regular church service on Sunday. For a while it wasn't just one service on Sunday's but we would have three separate services on Sunday and my mother would more than likely have to sing at all three. This is how my…
My name is Nikky T, I am a singer, songwriter and dancer from San Diego, CA. My story begins onstage, where my passion was first developed. My love for the arts started when I was put in my first dance class at the age of three. My passion for dance continuously grew and I threw myself into every style there was including: ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern, lyrical, and pointe. I always found myself on stage either through recitals, auditions, plays, or showcases. I was addicted to the entertainment realm, and It was all I wanted to do. Since…
They say that good things come to those who wait. But I'm convinced that good things come after a kick out the door. I didn't anticipate being laid off in 2016 from my dream job—I had been working as a junior designer at a local brand agency at the time, and I remember feeling so grateful for my opportunity to be there, but also feeling a bit stagnant and frustrated about sitting at a computer 9-5. Lay-offs happened, I was let go, and I remember feeling so defeated. I had no plan, no sense of "what next", and no real…
